Irina Yurgina, image: AECCThe annual city show and contest Rossijanochka-2009 (Russian girl) took place in Angarsk City on the eve of the International Women’s Day. March 7 in Sovremennik Recreation Center (an affiliate of the Angarsk Electrolysis and Chemical Complex, AECC) six charming Angarsk girls, and each of them deserving highest wins, were demonstrating arrays of their talents and gifts, enthusiasm and inspiration, charm and beauty. The contest organizers relived the adjudicators of labors of selecting the winners; otherwise, they decided to allocate nominations rather than places. Thus, each contestant enjoyed her share of fame as a nomination winner, however, only one got the Rossijanochka-2009 title. This year AECC was represented by two contestants: Irina Yurgina (PED) and Victoria Turbai (UCP).

The contest’s stage one – The Carte-de-Visite – supposed the girls to tell about themselves. A lyric dance performed by Vika Turbai was a living picture of love and feminity expressing hope and reinvigoration through soft movements, round dance and spring flower wreaths, the dance being a way of expressing her current perception of herself. Irina Yurgina pleased the audience with a lyrics and music narration reflecting her life philosophy, values and “moral code”. At the second stage – The Russian Woman’s Style – the contestants were to demonstrate some artistic skill to express the genuine Russian woman character through a folksong and national costume. The last stage included a dance contest “The Near-Airfield Dancing”. The adjudicators ruled Victoria Turbai as the winner in the “Miss Charm” nomination and Irina Yurgina as the contest winner and Rossijanochka-2009 title awardee.

“The contest geography expands each year and those who wish to participate become more in numbers. I think this contest must go beyond CIS borders, to a wider international space in future.”

Aleksandr Vanichkin, Secretary of the Russian Nuclear Power and Industry Workers Union’s Central Committee
